                        and disorders due to stroke, traumatic brain injury, dementia, and other neuropathology.

            SLH 518: Research Design in Communication Disorders

                        Content includes critical analyses of published research in the field, tests and

                        measurement, and quantitative and qualitative research using statistical programs for

                        data analysis and interpretation.

            SLH 514: Language Learning Disabilities in School-Age Children and Adolescents

                        Content includes a review of cognitive-linguistic processes for listening, speaking, reading,
                        and writing in school with an emphasis on evaluation and treatment of children who are                                        having difficulty learning.

            SLH 528: Counseling in Communication Disorders

                        Content includes an overview of counseling in communication disorders and the healthcare

                        professions. Counseling theories and interventions are reviewed through case studies.


 

            SLH 635: Integrative Capstone in Communication Disorders

                        Content includes a comprehensive integration of special topics in the field of Speech-
                        Language Pathology.  Students develop a professional portfolio and formally present
                        seminars on scholarly works.

            SLH 516: Clinical Practicum and Procedures

                        Content includes field-based observation and clinical experience working in a supervised

                        clinical placement. This didactic and experiential opportunity prepares students for clinical

                        work in evaluating and treating patients with communication disorders.

            SLH 616: Advanced Clinical Practicum and Case Study

                        Content includes a continuation of the supervised clinical placement experience. Emphasis is

                        on interpretation and application of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for individuals with

                        communication and/or swallowing disorders.

SLH 102: Introduction to Communication Disorders

            [This course was also developed for the PRE-SLP Program, Web-based format].

            Content includes an overview of normal processes and disorders of speech, language, and

            hearing. The roles of the speech-language pathologist and audiologist are surveyed.
           

Ø    Non-Teaching Activities and Service to the University

2000-2006

            Principal Investigator - Early Childhood Inclusion Support Program (U.S. Department of
            Education - Institute of Education Sciences with the Mid-Atlantic Laboratory for Student Success).

            This five-year federal grant identified preschool children with speech-language disorders and
            delays and provided services in an inclusive setting at community-based centers. Four

            graduate students were selected as research assistants to work on the Early Childhood

Inclusion Grant annually.
