Golden Rules and Strategies for Helping Children/Teens with Selective Mutism "Speak" In School
Selective Mutism is so much more than 'not speaking'. This workshop will focus on understanding SM as a social communication anxiety disorder. Key aspects to the evidence-based treatment, Social Communication Anxiety Treatment® (S-CAT®) will be discussed with emphasis on 'why' children develop SM, why a child remains mute and how to use the Social Communication Bridge® to determine stages of social communication. The bulk of the presentation will focus on hands-on tips and strategies using visuals, charts, and video examples to demonstrate how to help the child progress from mutism to speaking with peers, teachers, and within groups. Specifically, in the school setting.

Psychologist Ruth Perednik
Parents, Teachers and Therapists - Effective Therapeutic Interventions to Overcome SM
This presentation will outline interventions for each group (parents, teachers, and therapists) to be implemented together or independently.
Additional discussion will include: Raising shy children; treating teens and adults with Selective Mutism; Bilingualism, immigration, and SM.
